Passport... ... Check!

it's fun planning for holidays! 2 long overseas trips in the making and both with family, albeit different ones.

one with Kang's and the other w mine.
one in Western Australia and the other in North Africa.
one is in spring and the other in winter.
one free & easy and the other with tour.
one that i take some credit in the planning and the other just to sit back and enjoy what is already planned.

both countries will have a very nice climate with temperatures ranging from 12-21C. it will mostly be scenic views, learning about the different cultures, and hopefully all will go well.

looking forward and counting down!

Quite A Difference

How do you define the fine line

between happy and happiness?

between being lucky and being fortunate?

between perfect and perfection?

Under My Skin

is either some horrible bacteria that was hidden in the yong tau hu i took on monday lunch, or sth unexplained cos i still dunno how i got that horrible diarrhoea that kept me up the whole night. figured i was ok for work on tues, but realised it was a wrong mistake while on the bus cos i was feeling terrible.. tried to hold it intact but my whole body was aching and i just couldnt concentrate on my work. tried to ask my colleague to feel my forehead to check if i was running a fever, but we didnt know if the air-con was too cold or was it really a fever.

went to see a doc during lunch and the receptionist at the counter measured my temp at the forehead and said 36.5.. weird, cos i was quite certain i had fever. the doc measured my temp when i went in, and said 38.2.. jeez.. what a large discrepency. does this mean that the first instrument was faulty? doc was worried that i had dengue, but nah, it aint cos my fever's cleared. then while waiting for my med, the doc asked the recep to measure my temp again. she used the oral thermometer of which i waited for the longest time for it to beep but it never did n then it switched off by itself. last it measured was 38.0.. oh well..

stomach still feels weird. doc gave me 3 days MC till thursday. wanted to go back to work today, but decided to rest another day cos i had pounding headaches the night before. just as well, stomach cramps settled in.. but.. i wanna meet the climbers! dammit! looks like highest turnout ever, but i cant be there. san managed to talk me into gg last night, but now cos of another negative factor, i'll hafta give it a miss. daMn!! *irritated*

What Healthy Minds

means? i guess it's just that u hafta swallow down whatever u felt like spitting out and bear with it. jeez.. work is mundane, but boring is better than having crazy bosses breathing down ur neck.

as aptly said by sis "mindless is better than saneless".

there's much to complain. but are u in a better postition than others? well, it does make me feel better, but it's time to move on.

for now, as promoted by the govt "having peanuts is better than having none"

To the Clouds and Back

that's the feeling i get when climbing.
but frankly, i've stopped climbing..
but all things climbing, continue to interest me.

surfing around, found out there's so many types of climbing like alpine climbing, ice climbing, rock climbing, canyoning, buildering etc. Out of the many different types, i've tried 2, of which i've already stopped rock climbing for 2 yrs now (wow.. tt's quite long) and moutain climbing for 1 year. rock climbing had always been an interest but i never took the plunge in getting competitive. till 1 fine day, i decided, what the heck.. and so, had 2 wonderful yrs of climbing and met the loveliest people =] mountain climbing was actually something tt i thought would never happen. i loved to see Claud's beautiful pix of her adventures and then while in the midst of planning to go NYC with SF to find Ling, Nit and Kum started talking to me abt their plan to go S. Africa! tt made me seriously consider on this adventure i could call my own. and so plans were underway less than 4 mths before the trip. it was out-of-this-world!

looking at youtube vids online stir back really fond memories of these climbing experiences. on how the pro rock climbers try out the routes, their perserverence and their 'send' of the route. on moutaineering, i love seeing the views they see, their camping grounds and their progress to the summit. the completion of their goals is just pure bliss to them.

maybe it's this interest in climbing that made me return back to blogging? haha.. in some weird way, while i always felt like blogging, i never got down to doing it since Aug 08. then after i followed the news on the Women's Everest team, i just had the urge to compliment their efforts. way cool!

anyway, it was climbers' weekend last week. a housewarming at Teckie's place w lotsa chips and beer while playing Wii! fun times!
first got hooked when San n Ly started talking abt it back in May, and then tt night itself, w Feng's controllers in hand, off we went to Cine and played till 2am! we were so charged w energy!
and then on sunday, i joined the 'lao ren gang' for the first time. ha.. they are actually mostly just another batch before ours, so they are not that old. had brunch at ECP and while i've pratically lived my whole life on the east coast, i've never had brunch there. usually dinner or brekkie. or when i run w Nit, we usually have brekkie near our homes so it's not so far to walk back home after tt.
.
it was interesting that most of them have branched out to having a new sport in their lives, like diving and cycling and blading. but, most of them, are still climbing =]

Caught My Eye

i've been wanting to read this book for ages, but someone would tell me they have it and it's always a possiblility that i could borrow it instead of getting it from the bookstores. so thus, i've not read it. and now it's already being made into a motion picture! dun really like the idea of watching the movie then reading the book. it's like already knowing the ending before even beginning. but i'm going to watch the movie anyway. ha..

first got to know of Rachel McAdams in the movie The Notebook which was released in 2004. San intro'ed it to the climbers on our first ever trip up to KL, and while a whole group of them fell asleep during this midnight show on a small screen in our lodge then after a day's of climbing, i was happily enjoying it. real sweet, real nice.

opens 17 Sep! will catch it after i return from my trip =]

Going the Distance

i thought 'not again?!' we've been wanting to run a proper run at least maybe 5km but either we're too lazy to get out butts off the bed and outta the house, or we give excuses tt it's cloudy and it's raining (which was! but stopped an hour later while we were still in slumberland-_-..)

ha.. oh well.. today we did it! and the cloudy skies were nice enough to hold the rain.

i started out thinking shd we go 1 or 2 rounds but didnt wanna think tt much. nearing to the end of the 1st round, i was sneakily hoping tt Nitz would say, 'ok, let's stop.' but nah, i dun think she'd say tt =] besides, we were running at quite a constant pace and i hadn't even used up my energy yet. so yeah, 2nd round!

woohoo~ i loved our run today! 2 rounds around Bedok Reservoir which takes it to 8.6km and i loved the pace. Nitz is a good pacer, pushed me more than i thought i could n i didn't wanna slow down too much either. Nice!

we are going to be disciplined this time round. 4 mths to go before Stan Chart and while Nitz is running twice the distance compared to me, it'll be a good training nonetheless.

Let's go!

Explore Those Tastebuds

i cant resist the excitement of exploring new places - of trying a new menu.

be it overseas or local delights, it's still a new experience.

i love the joy when i taste something really fantastic and i smile stupidly to myself. or i'll exclaim w joy and suppress my laughter. Kang n Xin knows this well.

there's the occasional buffet, but the only buffet in recent times that i've eaten is those during hi-tea. i think the range would be just nice. i havent tried lunch or dinner buffets before cos i think after just 1 round, i'd give up already. he says actually i'm quite a big eater, which i hesitantly admit so but control myself to prevent myself from ballooning. of course my occasional running might help, but i believe prevention is better than cure!
that doesn't mean i try a whole lot of stuff on the menu, but basically and most of the time it's just 2 main courses if we're talking abt ala-carte, and unless the appetisers look t0-die-for, we'd rather give it a miss and go for supper some time later on.

he entertains me by bringing me to different places to try the different food. searching food blogs and sometimes thru reviews from frenz' blogs also give me an inkling of where to go.

alot of ppl always says that the east has lotsa good food. i'd agree only if i were to try more places that i haven't been to, so i'll jio ppl to intro or i'll anyhow whack a place which i think looks nice. Chat Masala was 1 tt i suggested to Nitz sometime back when we wanted to have dinner near home. nice but a tad ex, and after tt we still indulged in cheesecake n ice cream a little further down the road! was a pretty sinful night w all tt curry n sugar! Manpuku was a place i heard of at Tamp 1 but nv tried cos thot there'd be alot of ppl. but when Marilyn brought me there for dinner last wk, it was half filled n i wasnt quite happy w my food. Shokudo would still win hands down. Big Fish was also a good suggestion from yours truly since i've always wanted to try tt place but nv had a chance. wide range of variety, mid-priced w a nice boss.

i dun think there'll ever be a deadend tosuggestions for food places. just depends on ur mood for the meal and if u're game enuf to try something other than the usual franchise restaurants.
